Lunar Eclipse from the front yard

(This photo was actually taken off the internet and credit for it should go to Geraint Smith of New Mexico.)

The kids enjoyed using Rob Lane's telescope to see the lunar eclipse the other night. The next one won't be until December of 2010. You could also see the rings of Saturn and one of Saturn's moons. (Saturn visable in the lower left of the photo.) I was never a star gazer as a child but seem to really enjoy learning more about it now. Not sure what my fascination is today with it, but it is fun seeing the wonderment in the eyes of my kids as they dream about far away worlds and unknown lands. Isn't it hard to imagine that the universe has no beginning and no end? I love the image of Will Smith in the movie with Tommy Lee Jones as they fight the space monsters,... Men in Black,...at the end of the movie when the alien has the entire universe in a marble,....could it be? Pretty amazing to know that our God has created so much for us to see,....what a joy it is to see the passion for life in our little ones,..Tim

Seth also took the boys outside to check out the lunar eclipse. It was amazing! (And we didn't even have a telescope. I can only imagine how beautiful it was with that view.) Thanks for reminding me to not only appreciate the world's beauty but to thank God for it.
