Grant makes a wish,..

Tonight we met at the Oasis cafe for a quick bite of dinner. Heather and the kids had already eaten and had ordered me a little something to take home when I arrived. Heather and Lauren needed to step next door to the cafe for a minute and Grant asked if he could go and make a wish by throwing a coin in the fountain outside in the courtyard. Heather rummaged through her purse and proceeded to give him a couple of pennies to throw in and make a "big wish." I watched him go over to the edge of the fountain and stop. He appeared to be deep in thought and then began talking to himself, or God, or some imaginary person or was maybe just wishing out loud. He paused,....began the most amazing major league baseball wind-up I have ever seen,...stopped,...added a few more words to his commentary,.....and then launched his pennies into the fountain with a mighty throw.

I didn't ask, (but should) but I do wonder what a five-year-old might wish for? Do you suppose he was wishing for a new bike? Or maybe for the cartoon network to run 24/7 on a TV that only he could control; or maybe that Scooby-Doo was a real dog and he would be at our house when we got home. Whatever the case may be he was quite proud of himself and had that giggly little smile that said,...."I am so cool,....." Maybe I will never know what wild wishes came from his great big imagination tonight,...but what I do know is that two pennies made a little boy smile from ear to ear,....
